Bike Art

In my living room I’m lucky enough to have two pieces of art given to me by two artists who’s styles I really enjoy. My friend Acamonchi, an artist well known internationally who works in San Diego, recently gave my girlfriend and I a painting done on a wood box. I’ve always loved his style, a clashing of various colors, shapes, and objects that all compete for your attention. He’s done large scale work for a number of buildings around town, used to assist Shepard Fairey of Obey Giant while he was based in town, and runs a screen printing shop in SD.

Another piece that sits out on a book shelf is a camera sculpture made by Luis, also known as “Iron Man”, from Tecate Mexico. Luis likes to take old, thrown-away bike parts and weld them together to make up sculptures. For the camera he used cogs to make up the lens, a presta valve for the shutter, a hub that spins with a quick release handle to serve as a tripod, as well as various other parts. You can find alot of his work in San Diego’s Velo Cult bike shop:
